Ohaupo Township

Ōhaupō translates to "place of a breeze at night" and is a rural community nestled within the 'golden triangle' of the Waipa District.

The Ohaupo township is on SH3 between Hamilton and Te Awamutu, known for its peat lakes and the most delicious bakery in the district!

Ohaupo Trivia

The Ohaupo area and surrounding communitities were military outposts during the Waikato War and a military fortification was built about 1km north of the township in 1864. The earliest European settlers in Ōhaupō were Bohemian militiamen from the Pūhoi settlement north of Auckland. As of 2015, many descendants of these militiamen still lived in the area.
